Our guide to moving interstate

Moving interstate can be incredibly stressful due to the long distances involved. Most of us are aware of the basic tips and tricks for packing and moving. However, when it comes to moving interstate, if you aren’t prepared moving interstate can be quite the hassle.

Do not fear! Our AFRA Accredited team are here to help tackle your fears and make your move as easy as possible.

Tips and tricks for moving interstate

Remove clutter and downsize

Whether the space that you are moving into is smaller or larger than your current space, you want to ensure you’re only moving the items you really need. This is a great opportunity for a spring clean, and a fresh start! We recommend getting rid of anything that you haven’t used in the last five years or longer.

Organise a rubbish removal company or take a trip to the local tip to throw away anything you no longer require before your moving day.

Or take a look into local charities who may accept donations of good quality items which you no longer need.

Consider short-term or long-term storage

Sometimes there can be a gap between your moving out date and moving into your new space. In this instance, what do you do with all of your belongings?

We offer short-term and long-term storage options to help you with your transition to moving interstate. At Acrobat Storage you only pay until the day you leave.

That means that when you move out, you only pay for actual time spent in storage. Contact us for a free quote!

Carefully pack your items

Take special care to pack and protect your breakable items and label the boxes with a fragile sticker. We stock all of the packing materials that you may need for your next interstate move, including new and used boxes, tape, port-a-robes and packing paper.

Create a separate box for things you will immediately need when you arrive to your new space in the first 24 hours of your arrival. If you need assistance packing your valuables, see how we can help.

Don't forget the essentials!

There’s nothing worse than getting to your new home and realising that you have been so busy, that you forgot to organise getting the utilities switched on!

Prepare your interstate move ahead of time and ensure that electricity, water and other connections are turned on and are ready to go for when you arrive.

A checklist for the week before your move

  1. Confirm expected start and finish times/dates with your removalist
  2. Collect all spare keys in preparation to hand them over on moving day
  3. Organise the final reading for services such as gas, water and electricity
  4. Prepare to disconnect your internet/phone services and relocate to your new home
  5. Mow your lawns, weed and or trim hedges.
  6. Organise time to do a final clean of your current home - investing in a professional cleaner is always recommended.
